Singapore sling

Today started by missing breakfast... opps. The rest of UK based leg 4 (we are missing 3 members of leg 4 who will be joining us in Hanoi) made it though, and it was very nice (apparently). We'll have to set the alarm tomorrow.
We have a full day to kill before flying to Hanoi on friday morning, so we decided to go see the sights, while Malcolm went to a business meeting.
Note 1. Walking in the midday sun is a silly idea
Note 2. The locals stand in the shade while waiting for pedestrian crossings (even in the shade of the traffic light itself). They are pretty clever.
Note 3. The MRT (Singapores underground network) is air conditioned :)
Note 4. It's always best to copy the locals.

We walked through China town (where we ate last night) and on to the colonial part of town. We stopped for lunch at a pub that spilt out on to the pavement and ate outside to try acclimatise some more. Then we headed off to the MRT to go to Raffles.
We exited the station and found ourselves in a huge shopping centre, where we met with Malcolm and went to the bar in tower 3 and 9 on the 70th floor - there were spectacular views across the city. We took lots of photos before deciding to go to Raffles for a drink, so left before the waiters kicked us out.
At the long bar, the team had a round of Singapore slings, and as many slightly salted monkeynuts as we could eat (before depositing the husks on the ground - you're supposed to do that apparently).
I don't think Mel (on leg 3) appreciated the text from Malcolm, to tell her about the Singapore slings! Although, apparently Leg 3 were on some pretty gnarly mountain roads that were very breathtaking and had just been to see the Terracotta army.. so perhaps they win.
We finished the afternoon by walking through to the marina and business district, then across to 'little india' for a curry, and back home to the hotel.
Some mad packing to do so we can depart at 8am tomorrow morning to fly to hanoi.
Did i mention I have to set an alarm?.... I think I ought to do that now.... breakfast finished at 10.30 this morning!
