Hello and welcome!

Today has been one of those days...
Less than 5 days to go, and a spanner that was thrown in the works a few weeks ago is still causing problems.
'Leg 4' (which i'm part of) are due to collect 5 Land Rovers in Hanoi in 10 days time... only we might not be able to get the cars in to Vietnam, and 'Leg 3' are currently in China without the cars (the cars being stuck in customs on the Chinese Kazakh border). It's ok, it's only about 4000 miles or something... Ah well, it's hardly a challenge without some hiccups along the way.

But I should probably start at the beginning.
This is my personal blog to detail the epic adventure, that should be starting in about 5 days time if i'm lucky!
I am lucky enough to be taking part in GO60, a Land Rover Club expedition to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Land Rover. The plan is to recreate the first overland in spirit by travelling from Solihull to Singapore overland in Land Rovers all the way.
The aim is to raise £250,000 for the British Red Cross with fundraising efforts along the way, so if you'd like to support GO60, and be in with a chance to win a brand new Land Rover Freelander, pop along to www.go60sharing.co.uk and enter our prize draw - only £2 a ticket! (is that enough of a plug?).

My part is in part of the team on the last leg, leg 4, travelling from Hanoi to Singapore, picking the cars up from the leg 3 team who are currently trying to get the cars across China.
Our problem with Vietnam is the apparent ambiguity over the acceptance of Carnet en douane and international driving permits... and everyone has a different story it would seem. With not enough time left for the 'get permission from the Vietnamese Prime Minister' routes, and with others saying 'you'll be fine with Carnets and IDPs', it makes it a bit difficult to know for sure if leg 3 aren't just going to be turned around at the Vietnamese border.
So Plan Z has been brought in to play - travelling through Laos, and onwards to Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore (every project should have a Plan Z), although that brings with it a whole lot more questions... Can we buy Lao visa's on the border (with Vietnam and China) - so far it looks like it is possible to buy VOA (visas on arrival) at the Bo Ten border (China/Lao), but possibly not from the Vietnam/Lao border crossings. There is a Lao Embassy in Hanoi, so that could be possible. Can we get across to meet leg 3 in Lao in time, and more importantly can they get back to Hanoi to make their flights? Will leg 3 be able to deviate from their prescribed route through China?

A case of 'so many questions, so little time' it seems....
